Welcome to M&S Food in the High Street!
28th November 2023
Well, to begin with, New Malden has been 'formally' visited by King Charles III, the first time a monarch has attended in a formal capacity, as opposed to perhaps, King Edward VII strolling down Traps Lane (and, no, we have no knowledge or records that he ever did!)
We have embarked on a daunting and exciting project to record all the shopkeepers and residents of the High Street from 1890s to the current day, prompted by both the recent video of the growth of the High Street and also our chair (Maureen's) notes and recollections based on adverts for various shops. A work in progress and well underway!
We have been handed a copy of the the Minutes of Meetings for New Malden Troop of Girl Guides from 1939 to 1945 which we have now copied, archived and uploaded and it is interesting reading for those looking back at the war years. (Please see the link button below)
We often receive little tidbits of information and recently Tim Everson drew our attention to an auction for automation by Pytram Limited. (See the link below).
Robin found an old 1965 newspaper cutting with St George v The Dragon (See link below)
People have started asking us about the link between New Malden and Bees and whether or not there is any truth that Norbiton and Surbiton were associated with honey. In short, no they were not.
Please click on the link button below to read the fact, as opposed to the 'story /fiction' displayed in the Jubilee Square.

Greetings Cards
We have changed our Christmas Cards to simple 'year round, no message, greetings cards' and have added images as below. (Scroll through the images below to see what is available.)
PLEASE HELP: Somewhere you (or someone you know) may have old post cards or images of the area. There is as much history in the messages which were written on the reverse of such cards, as there is in the image on the front. If you have some, please scan front and back or advise us and we shall assist in scanning (not keeping) your images, thus securing the record for the archives.
In addition to our previous booklets, we have now completed our second book of residents' memories and recollections. To look and, hopefully, order copies, please click on the buttons below.
