Maldens and Coombe Borough Silverware
On formation of the Borough of Maldens and Coombe, symbols of office and donations were made (and gratefully received) by the new council. These were set out in the Borough Souvenir, a copy of which can be seen by following the link button below. During the period of office and prior to the amalgamation (swallowing up?) of the Borough (along with that of Surbiton) in 1965, the Borough's silverware was displayed in the Town Hall along with other donations and silverware.
Once the Borough was 'no more' the silverware was taken by Kingston and symbols of office (for example the mace and Mayor's chain) are displayed in Kingston museum.
However other items were separated and thanks to the office of the Kingston Mayor we have been granted the opportunity to visit and take colour images of what heretofore were only 'black and white' as taken at the time. Next time you are in Kingston and the Museum is open, why not take the opportunity to visit the museum and look at some of the 1936-1965 symbols of office.
