Publications and Papers (If you cannot read the text of a particular article as presented, then please download the file as provided)
One of our aims is to inform and therefore as we find something that we believe that you would be interested in we aim to prepare a booklet or paper so that the history and heritage is passed onward.
We have recently published our new booklet of resident's recollections "Monday was Always Washday" (still available to purchase) and we believe the memories start to fill in the blanks in our local history that those previously writing of New Malden may not have considered relevant.
In addition, our archivist, Julian, has looked into where exactly 'Maldens and Coombe' was located and this provides the basis for you to set out and look for the markers Julian has photographed. Walking the perimeter would be a long walk but you may just happen to be passing one of the boundary marker locations and want to take a further look. Abigail Hernan and David Henry have, in 2020, provided an update to the original survey.
David Henry has submitted a fabulous, informative and interesting paper on Classical Architecture in New Malden (see the link button below) and has posed questions in his paper on 'Malden Mysteries', as well as providing an interesting insight to a memorial cross at Old Malden.
Julian has also written on a couple of heritage locations these being the nuclear observation post, the location of the quaint footbridge over the 'Waterfall', the location of the Old Cinema and his 'theory' (until a better theory is submitted) as to why there is a kink in the High Street at the junction with Blagdon Road.
