War Memorials - Lest we forgetCommittee member Graeme Hodge has, for the last 15 years, been researching, the lives and the deaths of the names listed on local war memorials.
He has now formed the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames War Memorials Association with Ken Cowdery and both are taking the groundwork already done on the names on the various war memorials forward to the next stage. We shall continue to present the local stories but would equally recommend and urge you to visit their site as the link below where you will find their newsletter, a Roll of Honour and further details as to how to join the Association and to help them continue their valuable work in remembering the lives of those local heroes. If you would like to ask Graeme a question about Maldens and Coombe war memorials (via this website) or to provide information on someone remembered on a war memorial please contact him via the link below. In addition, the Society believes that the War Memorial should be a place of honoured remembrance all year and not just in November. We have resolved to ensure that there is a wreath laid to remember our VC recipients on the date of their sacrifice and to remember other important dates throughout the year. We would also ask you to stop and consider those civilians who also lost their lives during the wars and in subsequent conflicts and actions. |
